One more go with the random number generator!
It’s the penultimate day of this 31 day blogging challenge and I’ve been sitting on the sofa for over an hour not knowing what to write about. So I say, let’s give the random number generator one more whirl. It’ll be nostalgic.
We’ve landed on 93 today, which means our topic from this list is drumrollllll…
“Talk about your latest creative project. Bonus if you took photos along the way!”
This challenge is my latest creative project, in a way. And I kind of wanted to save my round up of this experiment for tomorrow. Hmmm…
Okay, let’s not go with ‘latest’. Instead let’s go with my wish-list creative projects; the projects that I haven’t committed to, that are just a whisper of an idea of a vision. So don’t hold me to them just yet, okay? Okay.
Also, let’s replace ‘photos along the way’ with ‘memes’. Because why not?
Writing a Play
This is a project I’ve been thinking about for quite a while. The only thing is that I don’t have a story as yet. And you can’t really write a play without at least the concept of a story. Also, there’s my crippling perfectionism, which never helps things. C’est la vie. But hey, I’ve proved over these last 30/31 days that I can show up consistently and get words on a page. And I proved it last year when I did 28 Plays Later. So maybe I have to just stop making excuses and get it done.
s-tier meme, right there
Writing a Poetry Collection
Spoiler alert: there’s going to be a theme to this list. This was an aspiration I had in around 2016-2017 when I was really getting into poetry and starting to share my work at open mics. I say ‘open mics’ it was the one open mic run by the Poetry Café. Unfortunately, I was sharing my work before I could decern what was ready for public consumption. After my first few outings went really well and my ego was thoroughly inflated, I read some decidedly first-draft material that went down like a lead balloon. The experience stalled my poetry writing for literally years. But maybe this’ll will be one of those projects where I look-up and suddenly have a collection of poems that are coherent enough to publish. Or I’ll make my own indie zine to trade in our post-apocalyptic barter economy.
knowing our luck, this’ll be the armageddon plot twist
Sewing a Corset/Stays
Alright, don’t give me that look! This isn’t some kind of trad-wife kink I’ve been hiding. All I want is some boned support garments to help me carry my goats milk and stop my mum moaning at me for slouching. Think of the back support! Also I hate bras. And yes, I’m modestly chested so I can go without, but one day I may not have that luxury. Also also, there is so much aesthetic potential in corsetry. Punk Pirate Core, Eldritch Swamp Queen, Les Mis Cast Member - the possibilities are endless.
Now, if only I knew how to sew…
does this meme have anything to do with corsets, no. but i can’t resist a good pun.
Creating a Herb Garden
Okay, this one is on the cusp of becoming a creative project, but J and I are new to gardening so it’ll be a steep learning curve. Also we have to settle on our combined vision. But he’s cat sitting at his sister’s right now, so here’s MY vision.
In the words of Ewen Montagu, “picture the scene” (iykyk).
I know have “Making a Man” from Operation Mincemeat in my head. I have only myself to blame, but anyway…
You walk out into the garden onto the decking Before you, the lawn bordered by flowering shrubs. Then halfway down you come to an archway covered with legumes and hunnysuckle. And beyond, raised beds of sage and tyme, onions and garlic, potatoes and parsnips. A veritable feast of veggies! And maybe some little gnomes with cute hats.
Will it work out? Will we keep everything alive? Who knows. But I’m not sure that the market for apocalypse poetry zines will be so I’m going to need a backup.
my self-awareness killing my dreams with reality
A Music Room/Recording Studio
Finally, in the world of interior design, I really want a music room/recording/filming studio. Especially now we a) have the space and b) own our home and can do whatever the feck we want to it. The thing is, I’m not really good at interior decoration and home renovation is expensive. So this is likely going to be a staged project, I feel.
one day…
This is by no means the end - there’s making a drop spindle to spin my own thread, crocheting my first garment, sewing a split-side skirt… But I’ll save those for a future post.
Let me know what you’re creative project wish-list is. It’s fun to trade creative obsessions!
